Every time I “crunchify” (totally just made that up) something else in my home, I can feel my husband rolling his eyes. He doesn’t even have to be home, I can just feel it. A few weeks ago, he told me that one of the oil blends I made up and diffused throughout the house smelled like “citrus and farts”. But, cleaning products scare me. Especially with little ones running around the house, the idea of cleaning and sanitizing with toxic chemicals found in every day cleaners just makes me nervous. In an effort to slowly but surely rid my house of every day products that aren’t good for us, I have made my own DIY Natural Household Cleaner, and I want to show you how you can make your own as well!
You Will Need:
-Apple Cider Vinegar OR White Vinegar
-Essential Oils of choice (not necessary, just an added ‘oomph’)
Because vinegar is so acidic, it can counteract some yucky buildups around the house. It helps to loosen up dirt and grease, while also deodorizing and preventing microorganism growth. There have been several studies surrounding vinegar and its antimicrobial properties.
Why Essential Oils?
Cleaning with essential oils is all the rage right now, and I don’t disagree! I personally use them for their antibacterial properties and to freshen the air. Plant Therapy Germ Fighter, my essential oil of choice for cleaning, contains the 100% pure, undiluted essential oils of: Lemon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon Cassia, and Rosemary.
In a spray bottle, combine equal parts warm water and vinegar.
Add 10-20 drops essential oils of choice.
Replace the cap and shake generously.
Use this as you would any other all-purpose cleaner: wood, glass, stainless steal, and porcelain. Wipe down areas with a microfiber cloth or towel.
(If you’re unsure of a particular surface area, test a small section first).
Homemade cleaners are safer, healthier, and way more affordable than store bought cleaners! Consider swapping out some of the cleaners in your home for simple DIY natural household cleaner! Three ingredients…It really doesn’t get easier than that.
