Only recently have I become hyper aware of not only the ingredients that I put into my body, but on my body as well. Skincare is so important to me, and I’ve had a strict skincare regimen for the last several years. I am constantly changing up the products in that routine to try and find the absolute best products for my skin conditions as well as the products with the best ingredients. Over the last several months, I have heard so many women raving about Beautycounter. Have you heard of Beautycounter?
Beautycounter is a Los Angeles based company which was launched in 2013. A direct retailer, Beautycounter sells through a network of independent Consultants as well as online. The company also allots $10 on behalf of every Member and Consultant to three Trusted Non-Profit partners: Environmental Working Group (EWG), Breast Cancer Fund, and Healthy Child Healthy World.
Their mission is quite simple:
1. Getting products that are cleaner and safer into the hands of everyone.
2. Educating consumers on making better, safer choices for themselves and for their families, as well as encouraging them to influence legislation to legally ban some of the most harmful ingredients that are so prominent in the cosmetic industry.
Over the past two weeks, I have had the opportunity to try several Beautycounter products, and I must say that I’m impressed. Let me give you a lowdown of what I tried, my first impressions, and benefits of each product.
Nourishing Cream Cleanser “Soothe and nourish skin as you wash away makeup and other impurities with this ultra-gentle daily cleanser. Lightweight yet deeply moisturizing, the creamy formula contains witch hazel to tone skin, and coconut oil and aloe to help hydrate.” – This cleanser is so lightweight. After using it, my skin felt tighter (in a good way), and squeaky clean–my favorite. In addition to being a great toner, witch hazel has so many skin care benefits. Not only does it help to fight acne, it will help to nourish dry skin and reduce any puffiness around the eyes. Nutrient rich Aloe will help to fight signs of aging and treat sunburn, and coconut oil is a great moisturizer.
Nourishing Cream Exfoliator “This gentle yet super-effective exfoliating cleanser sweeps away impurities to uncover fresh, radiant skin. Non-abrasive jojoba beads help slough off dry skin, while organic coconut oil and aloe soothe and hydrate.” – I tend to only use exfoliators once or twice a week, even the most gentle ones. This one made my skin feel so clean and refreshed, it looked better almost instantly. If you regularly use beauty products, chances are you have already used jojoba beads, since it is a common ingredient in many cleansers and scrubs. The main use of jojoba beads is to exfoliate skin. One of the main reasons they are so commonly used is because they gently clean, and do not damage the skin or leave it open for bacteria to invade. Again, coconut oil and aloe can help to dig deep into the pores and fight acne while moisturizing the skin.
Nourishing Day Cream “Lock in moisture throughout the day with our lightweight yet hydrating face cream. Easily absorbed and never greasy, the unscented formula contains a mix of organic coconut oil, safflower oil, and aloe to provide nourishing hydration, plus antioxidant-rich acai to protect against dry skin.” – Let me start off by saying that I love, love, love the fact that this cream is unscented. Especially with day creams meant to go under makeup–I hate when they have a smell. Even a faint one. It starts to make me feel sick after a few hours of wearing it. This cream is super lightweight (though it did take a few minutes to absorb into my skin), and wears beautifully underneath the Tint Skin Foundation. One of the best benefits to using products that contain acai are the anti-aging benefits. Acai is also rich in vitamins (A, B, C, and E to be exact), so it’s going to help revive your skin, heal damaged skin cells, and replenish moisture.
Nourishing Night Cream “A hydrating night cream that nourishes skin while you sleep. Organic coconut oil and aloe hydrate while geranium and green tea protect against dryness.” – There aren’t enough good things that I can say about this night cream. It’s basically like hitting the reset button on your skin every night. While I did find it to be a lot thicker than the day cream, and take quite a while longer to absorb, my skin felt so amazing each morning after I used it! Again, I didn’t find this one to have any scent, although I’ve seen other posts stating that it has a slight scent. Geranium is used to treat acne and calm inflamation, while green tea has anti-aging and antioxidant benefits that can help delay signs of skin aging (sagging skin, sun damage, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles). The polyphenols in the green tea help to neutralize harmful free radicals, which can cause significant damage to the skin and accelerate the aging process.
Nourishing Eye Cream “Pamper the delicate skin around your eyes with our lightweight, soothing eye cream. Rich in aloe and organic coconut oil, the unscented formula is easily absorbed and offers an instant cooling moisture boost.” – The Nourishing Eye Cream is like a giant glass of water for your under-eye. I found it to be extremely light weight, and it didn’t irritate the sensitive skin under my eyes like some creams tend to do. This one is super, super moisturizing, and will leave your eyes looking like you got more sleep last night than you probably did.
The Baby Line
I tried two products from Beautycounter’s Baby Line, the Baby Daily Protective Balm and the Baby Soothing Oil.
Baby Daily Protective Balm “Designed to be gentle enough for newborns, our barrier balm is the ultimate hydrating powerhouse. This soothing blend of organic shea butter and jojoba oil provides a layer of protection for dry, sensitive skin for both babies and moms.” – Whether it’s diaper rash, dry and cracked nipples, stretch marks, or makeup removal–this protective balm is your secret weapon. It melts into your skin like butter. I’m not going to lie here…while I did use some on Grayson, I used a good majority of it on myself.
Baby Soothing Oil “A mix of organic coconut, jojoba, and sunflower seed oils, our dry oil soothes and softens skin for a nourishing experience. The formula—designed for newborns and up—absorbs easily without ever feeling greasy.” – I’m a sucker for a good oil. I put a few drops of this into Grayson’s bath at night to keep his skin moisturized and protected. Then, I followed up with the protective balm.
Tint Skin Foundation
Tint Skin Foundation“Our game-changing Tint Skin Foundation is a lightweight, creamy foundation that cares for your skin. The formula goes on seamlessly and blends effortlessly to cover imperfections and even skin tone. And sodium hyaluronate, a natural moisture magnet, promotes smoother-looking skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The coverage level is up to you: For a sheer no-makeup look, apply with our Retractable Foundation Brush, and for medium coverage, apply with our Flat Complexion Brush. Comes in eight highly blendable shades, each uniquely formulated to suit a range of skin tones. Every skin tone gets a match—because we believe everyone deserves enviably beautiful skin.” – This foundation is crazy light weight, I was impressed. Especially considering the coverage that you get. If I had to compare it to other foundations on the market, I would say that the formula reminds be of the Bare Minerals BareSkin Foundation. (Mainly because of how lightweight it feels not only between the fingers, but on the skin as well). When it comes to the coverage and wearability, it reminds me of my current favorite foundation–It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream. The Tint Skin Foundation does a great job of evening out the complexion and giving me the right amount of coverage. I’m not a huge fan of light coverage, I’ve got to be able to build it up, and I can with the Tint Skin! My only complaint with this was that I was sent the wrong color. I’m a hard person to match because I’m so so fair in person. The color that I was sent was “Linen”, and I probably needed “Porcelain”. Other than that, two thumbs way up!
Overall, I have been quite impressed with every single Beautycounter product that I tried. They definitely exceeded my expectations, which I’ll be honest, weren’t high. I have never been a huge fan of any multi-level marketing cosmetic companies, and I’ll be the first to admit that. Not only do I love Beautycounter’s mission, they have the products to back it up. You can expect to hear more about these products when I purchase full sizes and integrate them into my daily routines.
