I’ve officially hopped on the bandwagon. Unless you live under a rock, you’ve seen the millions and millions of pictures and posts about Kylie Cosmetics. After months of wondering if I should splurge, I got a bit of a nudge when the Koko Kollection came out. The Koko Kollection includes three matte liquid lipsticks and one gloss that were the brainchild of Khloe Kardashian. I would be lying if I said that’s not why I bought them. She’s my favorite. Today, I’m going to not only touch on my experience ordering from Kylie Cosmetics for the first time, but also review the Koko Kollection.
Ordering the Koko Kollection was my first ever experience ordering from Kylie Cosmetics, and I’ll be honest, it was a shit-show. I initially tried purchasing on launch day, which was my first mistake. I made it onto the site at the exact time that it launched, added the items to my cart, and went to check out. I was immediately greeted by a loading screen stating that they had “Like. Literally. So Much Demand.” Seriously? The loading screen told me not to click out, so of course, I waited. Ten minutes later, I was at my cart with the items sold out and me sitting there looking like a jackass unable to purchase. (I even had a friend who went through the entire checkout process only to be told her order wasn’t found).
During the restock, I wasn’t planning on trying again. My ego was still bruised from last time. Luckily, I was able to snag one during the restock. Which, if you plan on purchasing, wait for the restock. Don’t even try to get it on the launch day. That was my first mistake.
That whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, but I’m happy to report that for the most part I love the products.
All four products were $40, which is a steal. Her regular lip kits sell for $29 and the singles are $17.
The gold packaging on the Koko Kollection is beautiful! I love gold anything. It seems to be peeling off on a few of my lipsticks though, which was disappointing. I keep them stored on top of my vanity and never let them rattle around in my purse, so the integrity of the packaging should stay in tact, in my opinion, especially for what you pay. It’s almost like it’s coated cheaply, perhaps to mass produce? *I should mention one was peeling from the moment that I opened my the package.*
My initial first impression of them was the smell. Heavenly. Sweet. Like…candy, possibly. I love the smell of these and would purchase more lipsticks from her solely based on the smell. Ha! My absolute favorite color from the collection is ‘Khlo$‘(the nude). It is incredibly opaque and glides on smoothly. The other two lipstick colors, ‘OKURRR‘ and ‘Gorg‘ are a little less opaque, even streaky, and require more than one coat. Which, if you’ve use liquid lipsticks before, more than one coat gives you serious butthole lips. Yes, I said it. The gloss, ‘Damn Gina‘, is truly one of my favorite glosses that I own. It’s very thick, but not enough to weigh your lips down or make them feel tacky.
Like all matte liquid lips, you need to really prep your lips before applying. If you don’t like a lot of work when it comes to your makeup routine, I’d skip matte liquid lips all together. You need to invest in a good lip exfoliator, and I even use a lip mask underneath the lipstick. The mask that I use is the Agave Lip Mask from Bite Beauty. (Get you some…) I also use my finger to blot off any excess lipstick before it has a chance to dry. This helps them to look a little more polished and a lot less cracked.
With proper application, these will last you all day. Without, they will last a few hours at best.
Would I repurchase? This entire collection? No. Khlo$? Yes. I’m also interested in trying a few other shades that I’ve had my eye on since they launched. I think I would steer clear of darker shades, for fear that they too would be streaky. I will definitely be ordering more products from Kylie Cosmetics though!
Have you tried Kylie Cosmetics? If so, what were your thoughts? What are your favorite products?
*I purchased these products with my own money and am in no way affiliated with Kylie Jenner or Kylie Cosmetics. But, hey girl, hit me up!*
